| Several old and new companies have latched on. Baidyanath Group logged a three-fold jump in sales of chyawanprash as well as honey and giloy satva products since April. Dabur has seen a seven-fold growth in demand for chyawanprash. Its giloy capsules and honey bottles are also being sold in sizeable quantities. Auric Beverages, a startup that makes ayurvedic health drinks, has seen a three-fold surge in demand for its products. | | | The multi-pronged attempts by these FMCG companies to sign up these shop owners have often hit a wall. The claims that tech-enabled solutions would ease business processes and could increase business for the small stores have not found many buyers, say analysts. Companies are working on value propositions that would make sense for a kirana store owner to adopt technology. | | | As people hunker down at homes, fearing for their health, worried about their jobs and bored out of their minds, a variant of The Lipstick Effect is playing out. From panic buying to indulgent buying, the consumption pattern during Covid-19 has traversed quite an arc, at least for some. | | | It is also now clear that upon reopening, metros are unlikely to see nearly anywhere close to the traffic of pre-Covid days, as social distancing protocols and work from home will continue. The premium segment is a niche but high-margin category, say industry analysts. While two-wheeler sales in 2019-20 were 17.41 lakh units, only 8,000 premium motorcycles (500cc+) were sold in the period. | | | India is a society where the traditional social values of hierarchy and subordination of the subaltern rungs of the hierarchy to those above them have deep roots. | | | We are told that the world will be a better place if we choose sattva-guna over rajo- or tamo-guna. Yet, all children are encouraged to be aspirational, achievement driven, rather than contentment driven. This stokes rajo-guna. The child prefers getting lost in video games and self-gratifying partying. That generates tamo-guna. | | | It is the name of the town. Te Araroa is a little town on the northern island of New Zealand. About 175 km north of Gisborne. Te Araroa also means the long pathway. It is also the name of a camping trail. | | |
